For the Android phones, Vodafone worked together with Google. The phones were supposed to be a great hit, like the iPhone, but unfortunately it failed to get such high sales numbers. Maybe this is the reason that Vodafone says that they don't actually need Google's services like Gmail in the future. The provider would actually want to replace these services with different ones made by Vodafone self. This is what a representative of Vodafone told Tech Reporter.
The Android Phone will be stripped down to a 'basic package', to which Vodafone wants to add separate services, this tells representative Rachel Williams to the tech website. That idea however, isn't really original. HTC is also thinking about changing the Android phone to their wishes. The Providers have many options to change the Operating System of the Android because it is open source. This means that it can be changed by anyone without too much trouble.
The first smartphone that Vodafone is going to bring out onto the market with Android is the HTC Magic. In many countries it will be released any time soon. After this first model, Vodafone is probably going to release even more versions, this says Williams.
The looks of the HTC Magic has drastically changed the last few months. Before the Magic was actually announced, pictures with flat buttons on the Magic appeared. These versions were also available as hands-on at many conventions. The pictures of the announced version in February had whole different buttons. The latest version of the Magic even has a different order in the buttons. The Magic will come out in a few colors, but the black version has buttons who look like metal, really stylish!
Some of you might have never heard of the Android phones. It are actually regular phones but with a whole new OS. The OS is called Android. Thanks to this Operating System the options on such a phone can easily be changed because it is an open source OS. Since Vodafone has announced that they want to leave the Google services behind them and start their own, I'm curious what kind of new functions we can expect on the new models of the Android phones. The question is not only what kind of new features they will develop, but also how good the new features will be working, because Vodafone hasn't as much experience with creating such services like Google does.
